Summer is here, and once again the children of Esciton are free of school and wondering why their parents won't let them go on a vacation. The heat can be almost unbearable at times, but at least the sun is always out to provide some healty Vitamin D.

Esciton Surveillance Notes « Thread Started on Mar 30, 2008, 9:11pm »
After last weekend's fiasco, I guess I still need to write this stuff down. I was hoping that I'd gotten better at this long term memory stuff, but no luck, which is unfortunate.
Esciton Public Library
Notable Security:
At least 87 Video Cameras - Study rooms, computer area, bathrooms, aisles - all have cameras. - Typically hidden in ceiling tiles or bookshelves. - Maximum 4 cameras per aisle, and the blind spots are obvious to passerby. - The only unmonitored room is the locked, private study room on the second floor. - Watch out for doorknob and floor cameras near Fantasy novel area!
Heat sensors - Just beyond every doorway, excepting the baby playroom - Accompanied by inattentive security guard
Security Booth - Behind information desk - Always staffed by at least 4 guards {not definite} - Definitely stocked with weapons {type unknown - possible tranquilizer guns -- WTF?}
Exits:
Main entrance; side door (baby playroom); side door (teen fiction); and a staff exit on the ground floor. Fire escape; all windows on the second floor - there are ladders going down from all of them. One staircase (NW corner) One elevator (beside staircase)
Other Stuff: There's a locked storage room - probably cold storage, from the temperature - and at least twelve (also locked) janitor's closets on the first floor.
---
I can understand the surveillance cameras near the computers, but not everywhere else. They're all hopelessly obvious, except for the doorknob and bookshelf ones. And why the heat sensors and security guards? The legion of guards is a dead giveaway of something... but what, exactly? And what's with the ladders in the windows? I half expected to locate a hidden exit in the Architecture & Design Aisle (the cameras there are trained away from a depression in the carpet). It's almost as if the library is expecting a sudden attack, and they'll have to fight a battle on the spot.
Library staff seem to be totally oblivious to the security. Do they even know it's there?
It makes me a little uneasy - it's obvious that the Esciton library is going to be an awkward location.
Be alert for things that I missed the first time through. The library is definitely a shitty hit spot.
ooc] I hope this is going to be okay... I'm kind of defining the security of buildings in Esciton. If it needs to be toned down or something, I'll work on it.
